Fail to Plan....

I have this mug on my desk at work that says in Latin 'Defectus tuus consilium carpere discrimen mihi non constituit'. This saying faces away from me and towards my colleagues. On the side facing me is the English translation which reads 'lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part'.
I bought it as a joke, but looking at it today, I thought to myself... this could be God saying this to me, not me saying it to my colleagues!
How often throughout my day do I 'plan' to ask God what He wants from me, what He wants me to do, what I should say, where I should be, whether to agree to something or not?
Truth is I don't plan it in and I should! I intend to do it, but the day soon hurries away from me at work and before I know it, I'm heading back home.
Yes I get up at a specified time and spend time with God in prayer (when I haven't hit the snooze button which is another failure to plan!), but I need to plan into the rest of my day to stop and see how its going. How often do I then face an 'emergency' where I fly to God and ask Him to rescue me? An emergency that I might have avoided if I had asked Him what I should be about! All the time!
Note to self... let me start the day adding to my prayer routine by intentionally planning in some time to stop and ask God if I'm going the right way, and if not to pop me on a different path.
